High Quality Legal Help Within Your Reach

Immigration Law: Your Path To The American Dream

As an immigration attorney serving Racine and the surrounding areas, I value you and your dream to pursue your dreams in the U.S. Immigrants have played an essential role in shaping the cultural fabric of Wisconsin. However, navigating the complex immigration system presents an uphill battle without proper legal guidance, especially if you face criminal charges that could result in removal proceedings against you.

My name is Brandon Zegiel. I am a lawyer who has handled complex immigration matters, including representing clients in criminal court when their immigration status is at risk. So, I understand the challenges you face and will be your fierce advocate every step of the way.

From Green Cards To Citizenship And More

Are you looking for help with immigration issues? I handle a variety of legal matters, including:

  • Green cards: Assisting with applications for lawful permanent residency through family, employment or investment-based petitions
  • Visas: Guiding clients through the visa application process for temporary workers, students/academics, fiancés and more
  • Removal defense: Representing clients facing deportation orders or in removal proceedings before immigration courts
  • Asylum: Helping refugees navigate the asylum process, including applications and hearings for secure asylum status
  • Waivers: Seeking waivers of inadmissibility for grounds like previous immigration violations or criminal records
  • Deferred action: Renewing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or initiating new applications to work and live in the U.S. lawfully
  • Citizenship and naturalization: Assisting lawful permanent residents through the naturalization process to become U.S. citizens

Whether your goal is to secure a temporary visa, establish permanent residency or achieve U.S. citizenship, I am an attorney with the knowledge to clearly explain your options and build a strong case on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions About Immigration

Here are four of the most common questions I get from my clients and their families about immigration law.

What are the requirements to become a U.S. citizen through naturalization?

To become eligible for U.S. citizenship (naturalization), you must meet certain requirements. You must be 18 years old or older and a “permanent resident” or a green card holder. This means you have been a green card holder for over five years or at least three years if you are married to a U.S. citizen. You must also showcase good moral character for the entire period of your permanent residency and be able to pass the U.S. naturalization test and a civics test.

Can I stay in the U.S. while my immigration case is pending?

In most cases, yes. When you file the Form I-485, you may stay in the U.S. until the court formally assesses and adjudicates your case. It’s crucial to maintain lawful visa status throughout the processing period. Leaving the country after accumulating 180 days or more of “unlawful presence” may result in a three-year reentry ban.

What are the most common reasons immigration applications get rejected?

While each case is unique, certain known factors can cause officials to reject your U.S. citizenship status application, including inadequate financial support, prior visa issues, a past overstay, criminal history, submission of forged documents, and inaccurate or incomplete documentation.

What should I do if ICE detains a family member in Wisconsin?

It is crucial that you act on this matter quickly and find out where your loved one is being detained. You must also seek the guidance and support of an experienced immigration lawyer who can help you understand the legal options available for your case and prepare for the court proceedings.
