Secure Your Child’s Future With A Racine Child Support Attorney
Child support disputes can place considerable emotional and financial pressure on your family. Whether you are establishing support, seeking a modification or dealing with missed payments, a child support lawyer can help you understand your rights and pursue an order that reflects your child’s needs.
I am attorney Brandon Zegiel from Zegiel Law Offices, LLC, and I provide personalized representation to parents in Racine and throughout the Milwaukee metro area. I take time to hear your side of the story before determining whether negotiation or courtroom advocacy offers the most appropriate path forward.
How Is Child Support Calculated In Racine?
For a standard order, Wisconsin’s percentage guidelines apply:
- 17% of gross income for one child
- 25% for two
- 29% for three
- 31% for four
- 34% for five or more
When each parent has at least 25% physical placement and approximately 92 overnights annually, the court uses a shared-placement formula that considers both parents’ incomes, each parent’s placement time, and a 150% multiplier for shared household costs.
Separate calculations apply to low-income payers, high-income payers and parents who already have legal support obligations for other children. Child support helps meet a child’s everyday needs, including food, housing, clothing and transportation. It may also consider other costs associated with raising the child, such as health insurance and medical expenses.
When Can A Child Support Order Be Modified?
Either parent may request a modification when there has been a substantial change in circumstances. This may involve:
- A significant income change
- Job loss
- A revised placement schedule
- A meaningful change in the child’s needs
Your existing obligation remains in effect until the court formally changes it.
What Happens When A Parent Does Not Pay?
Unpaid support can lead to enforcement measures such as:
- Income withholding
- Tax refund interception
- Court proceedings
I can help you pursue overdue payments or respond to an enforcement action while protecting your legal interests.
